Overview

Many believe that poor diet and lifestyle choices are the leading causes of acne. However, there is little evidence to support this. Specialists believe that hormonal changes play the largest role. This explains why some pregnant women and teenagers experience increased acne breakouts.

Blackheads are a type of acne that forms when pores clog with excess oil excreted by the sebaceous glands under the skin. This oil mixes with dead skin cells and dirt to plug the pore, or hair follicle, which then turns black as it oxidizes.

Step 1

Mix 3 tbsp. of manuka honey and 1 tbsp. of cinnamon powder in a bowl until they form a paste.

Step 2

Place steaming bowl of hot water on a sturdy surface. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the bowl. Completely enclose the towel around the bowl, allowing heat and steam to build up. Steam for five to 10 minutes to loosen your pores. Do this facial steaming right before bed.

Step 3

Apply the manuka honey paste in a thick layer to your whole face. Allow it to dry before you go to bed.

Step 4

Gently rinse off the honey mask with warm water the next morning. The mask will difficult to remove so some time will be required.

Step 5

Dab your face try with a towel and apply moisturizer.
