How to Remove Blackheads From Black Skin
Blackheads are not caused by dirt; most acne, in fact, actually has hormonal causes, according to Medline Plus. For this reason, heavy washing and scrubbing often does more harm than good. Due to the melanin content in black skin, harsh cleansers and scrubs can make blackheads worse, according to Dr. Susan Taylor, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in people of color. Additionally, Taylor recommends against squeezing or rubbing to remove blackheads. Juliette Samuel, author of "Caring for the Skin You're In: A Guide to African American Skin Care," recommends a gentle blackhead-removing egg mask.
Wash your face with a mild cleanser. Avoid vigorous scrubbing and rinse with warm water.
Pat your face dry with a soft towel. Do not rub.
Break the egg and separate the white into a small bowl. Throw the yolk away or set it aside for use in another recipe.
Add 1 tsp. of water to the bowl. Whip the egg white until it is frothy.
Apply the egg white to your face. Pay close attention to areas with blackheads, and avoid getting the egg in your eyes.
Layer the hair-setting papers, facial tissue or toilet paper over the egg white. The paper should turn translucent as it absorbs the egg white and create a mask on your face.
Let the paper and egg white sit for 15 minutes. Your face should feel tight as the mask dries. Peel the mask off, slowly.
Rinse your face with warm water, then follow with cool water. Blot your face dry with a towel.
