Blackheads can be unsightly, especially when they are on your nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. When dirt and oil builds up in your pores, blackheads appear, sometimes at the base of the pore deep underneath the skin. Simply picking and trying to force the blackheads out of the pore with your fingernails can easily damage the pore, scar the skin or lead to worse black heads. A trip to the drug store can leave you with the equipment you need to remove deep blackheads.

Step 1

Apply a face mask about once a week to help keep oil from accumulating on your face. Clay- and avocado-based masks are effective in absorbing oil, which is the main cause of blackheads. Avoid using the masks more than one time a week, as you do not want to dry out your skin.

Step 2

Use steam to help open up your pores. Stand outside the shower with hot water running, or boil water over the stove and stand over the pot while the steam is rising. This will not only help open the pores but also soften the skin so that blackheads can be removed easier.

Step 3

Use a blackhead extractor tool to physically remove the dirt and oil from your pores. If your extractor has a metal loop, center the blackhead in the middle of the loop and press down against the skin. The pressure that is applied around the blackhead should force the dirt and oil upwards and out of the pore. You should not have to use too much pressure to remove the blackhead, and excessive pressure can damage the skin.

Step 4

See a dermatologist if the above methods do not work. For deep, stubborn blackheads, you will want to use all three of the above treatments in conjunction with one another, as skin with open pores and limited oil will be more conducive in allowing the dirt and oil to be removed. If those methods fail, a dermatologist can prescribe an antibiotic or treatment method to help relieve you of your blackhead troubles.
