How to Remove a Blackhead Correctly
Blackheads are black or yellowish bumps on the surface of the skin that occur from an overproduction of oil in the sebaceous glands. Dirt does not cause the blackened appearance, but oxidation of the oil that is clogging the pore. As long as no infection is present, you can remove the blackheads on your own. If you are unsuccessful, you can speak to a dermatologist about further treatment options.
Wash your hands. Remove any makeup that you are wearing prior to removing the blackheads.
Steam your face to prepare the skin for blackhead extraction. You can either take a hot shower or place your face over a bowl of hot water. Keep your face over the steaming water for five minutes. A towel should be placed over your head to better trap the steam.
Choose a blackhead extraction product to remove the blemishes. Over-the-counter pore strips can help get rid of the blackheads without irritating the skin. Some brand examples are Biore Deep Cleaning Pore Strips and Pond's Clear Solutions Clear Pore Strips.
Place the adhesive pore strip on the blackhead area. Leave on for five to 10 minutes before pulling away from the skin. You should notice the blackheads upon the surface of the strips.
Cleanse the face with an exfoliating scrub. To remove any dead skin cells and oil, clean the skin after blackhead extraction. Use a scrub with acne-fighting salicylic acid as one of the ingredients. An example you can try is Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub. Use daily until the skin is blemish free.
