How to Reduce Acne Scars at Home

Overview

Acne is a common skin condition, especially during adolescence. It occurs when the sebaceous glands in the skin produce too much oil, which clogs the pores. This can cause the skin to become inflamed, which can produces scars in severe cases. Mild acne scars can be reduced with home remedies by applying chemical peels or other substances that are readily available.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin with warm water and a mild soap.

Perform a chemical peel. Apply the chemical peel to the affected skin and remove it after about 15 minutes. A chemical peel is a dilute solution of glycolic acid that dissolves the bonds between the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. It only removes the upper surface of the skin and will only treat mild acne scars.

Step 3

Slice open a lemon with a knife a squeeze the juice into a bowl. Add 1 cup of water and mix it thoroughly with the lemon juice. Submerge a washcloth in the bowl and allow it to soak up the solution of dilute lemon juice. Wring the excess solution from the washcloth and press it to your skin for a few minutes. Use oils to treat acne scars. Rub pure vitamin E oil into your once a day to treat acne scars. Apply rosehip seed oil twice daily to gradually lighten acne scars. Apply pure olive oil to your skin several times each day to reduce acne scars. You can buy these oils at health or beauty supply stores.
