The pores of the skin can easily become clogged with oils, sebum, dirt, and bacteria, which can lead to acne breakouts if left untreated. To prevent the pores from becoming clogged and broken out, the pores can be opened and drained. Keeping the pores flushed out in this manner allows them to remain clear and free of any entrapment, which in turn can prevent the skin from erupting in acne breakouts. To open the pores and flush out blockages, you can apply a purgative facial using a non-comedogenic oil, steam, and lemon juice.

Step 1

Massage your skin with castor oil. Castor oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog the pores when used on the skin. Castor oil is also purgative, which means it can help force impurities out of the skin by bonding to impurities inside the pores, and allowing them to drain out more easily.

Pour 1 tbsp. of castor oil into your palm, and rub your hands together to distribute the oil between your hands evenly. Spread the oil onto your skin gently, avoiding rubbing too abrasively. Use your fingers to massage the oil deeply into the skin for 3 minutes.

Step 2

Steam your skin to open the pores and release the oil. Steam forces the pores to open widely, and allows the oils, sebum and impurities to flush out of the pores easily.

Fill a bowl with boiling water, and lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl. It is important to avoid leaning closer than 12 inches over steam, or the skin could be scalded. Cover your head with a towel to force the steam to billow over your face. The pores will open and will sweat. After 5 to 10 minutes, lift your head and wipe off the oil and sweat using the towel.

Step 3

Apply a lemon juice compress. Lemon juice is high in vitamin C, a natural antioxidant that increases the rate at which the dead skin cells are sloughed away and the new skin cells are developed. This allows the pores to remain unclogged and clear, while keeping the skin smooth and radiant.

Soak five to six cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, and place the pads over the skin. Allow the pads to remain there for at least 15 minutes, and then remove the pads to let the skin dry.
