How to Minimize Open Pores How to Minimize Open Pores

Overview

Pores are tiny openings in your skin that harbor your hair follicles, oil glands and sweat glands. Pore size often depends on your skin type. For example, Yale University explains that if you have normal skin, your pores are more likely to be smaller in size. If you find yourself struggling with large pores, you are prone to oily skin. To minimize your large pores it is necessary to keep your skin clean and oil free.

Step 1

Wash your skin daily using a gentle cleanser. Massage the cleanser into your wet skin with your fingertips or a soft washcloth. Follow with a cool water rinse.

Step 2

Pat your skin dry with a clean towel and apply an astringent to help tighten your pores. Witch hazel is a natural astringent, which will help remove excess oils. Astringents also have a cooling effect that helps minimize pores. Apply the witch hazel to a cotton ball and slide it over your clean skin.

Step 3

Exfoliate your skin once a week. Apply a pea-sized amount of exfoliating cream to the palm of your hand. Massage the exfoliator into your wet skin using circular motions.
