Overview

Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes hair directly from the follicle instead of cutting it at the skin line with a shaver. This type of hair removal offers the benefit of living hair-free for several weeks after the procedure, according to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Waxing causes slight trauma to the skin, which can result in irritation. It also opens the pores, leaving the skin in the affected area at risk for infection. Closing the pores in the affected area will reduce this risk.

Step 1

Wrap two to three ice cubes in a paper towel. Place the ice cubes in a plastic bag.

Step 2

Seal the plastic bag to prevent water spillage as the ice melts. Lay the plastic bag of ice on your skin immediately after waxing.

Step 3

Leave the bag of ice in place for 20 seconds, moving it to a new location afterward. Continue the process of icing your skin in 20-minute intervals for 5 to 10 minutes.
