To create a natural, yet effective, facial cleanser, combine 1 tbsp. of olive oil with 2 tbsps. of brown sugar in a bowl. Apply to the face in an upward, circular motion to lift and eliminate dead skin cells that can accumulate on the skin’s surface and cause acne. Rinse with warm water.
Follow with a natural witch hazel toner that helps refine the pores while providing essential moisture without the drying effects of alcohol. If extra moisture is needed, apply a small amount of vitamin E or olive oil to the skin. These items are rich in antioxidants and promote cellular restoration due to acne--even on oily skin.
Weekly Deep-Pore Cleansing
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that 56 percent of skin products contain enhanced penetrators that deliver impurities deep within the skin. Many topical cleansers cannot reach beneath the epidermis, which requires deep-pore cleansing methods to eliminate impurities and debris that can accumulate and cause acne.
The simplest deep-pore cleansing method is steaming your face and sweating away impurities. Boil a pot of water along with three to four drops of lavender, thyme or tea tree essential oils. These oils are naturally anti-microbial, which inhibits bacterial proliferation while providing a fragrant experience. Place the pot of water on a table or flat surface that you can stand or sit over. Wrap a towel around your head and the pot and steam your face for approximately five minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your regular skin cleanser to wash away debris.
