How to Help Acne
Acne occurs when pores become clogged by the natural oils in the skin. The blocked pores may become inflamed and erupt into pustules. Acne can become further aggravated by bacteria that grow in the blocked pores. You can perform a number of remedies yourself that may help clear the pores and reduce the severity of the condition.
Wash your skin twice each day with mild soap. Avoid touching the acne more than necessary and ensure that you rinse all the soap off each time. You should also wash your skin after perspiring heavily, although excessive washing can further irritate the acne.
Apply acne medication. Many types of acne medication are available but they typically contain benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. This compound releases oxygen when applied to the skin. This inhibits the growth of the bacteria in the pores of the skin since they prefer low-oxygen conditions.
Use astringents. This class of medication helps clear pores by absorbing the excess oil in the pores. Apply astringents sparingly and only to the oiliest parts of your skin. Astringents can dry your skin excessively and may cause further inflammation.
Clear your pores with chemical peels. The chemical peels made for home use aren't generally strong enough to treat actual scarring but they can remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. This can help to clear the pores in your skin.
Treat acne with lemon juice. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl and dilute it with a cup of water. Apply this solution to your blemishes with a washcloth for a few minutes. Perform this procedure once per day to minimize the appearance of acne.
