Acne vulgaris is the most common skin condition according to the American Association of Dermatologists. It also states that there is no overnight cure, Being diligent at gently cleansing your skin and using a cream that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can prevent new breakouts and help quickly heal current ones. Step 1

Lather up your fingertips with a mild soap, or non-abrasive cleanser, and warm water. Apply the lather starting with your chin. Use a circular motion going upwards toward your forehead and gently scrub for 30 seconds to one minute to help remove the acne-causing excess oils. Avoid being too aggressive, which can irritate your skin and cause your acne to get worse.

Step 2

Rinse you skin off with cool water for at least one minute so that all of the soap, cleanser and pore clogging dead skin cells have been removed. Thoroughly dry off with a soft towel using very gentle strokes or pats against your skin.

Step 3

Wait 10 to 15 minutes to allow your skin to be completely dry. Applying the cream to wet skin can cause irritations which can lead to additional breakouts. Squeeze a few drops of the medicated cream onto your finger. Apply the cream to your face beginning with the chin and moving up toward your forehead with a circular motion. Cover all areas that are prone to acne breakouts to prevent future blemishes.
