Overview

Squeezing blackheads with the fingertips is a practice that many individuals engage in. However, squeezing isn't an appropriate technique for removing blackheads. According to the staff at the Mayo Clinic, "Picking or squeezing [blackheads] can cause infection or scarring." Removing blackheads from the face can be done safely. Using a small tool that is called a double spoon extractor makes this possible.

Granular exfoliating products remove the surface layer of dead skin cells from the face. Exfoliating the skin makes blackhead removal easier. According to website Beauty Advice, exfoliators prevent new ones from forming because they "...prevent the pores from becoming clogged with dead skin and debris."

Step 1

Cleanse your face. Work your cleanser into a good lather. A heavy lather lets the fingertips glide across the skin instead of stretching it. Working in small circles, begin cleansing at the chin, working your way up to the forehead.

Step 2

Exfoliate your face in the same manner that you cleansed it. Working in small circles, begin exfoliating at the chin, working your way up to the forehead.

Step 3

Apply toner to cleansed face. Toner removes trace elements of dirt, oil and cleansing products.

Step 4

Open your pores. Place washcloths in a bowl of hot water, but not so hot that it can burn you. Wring out excess water from the washcloth and place it on your face for three minutes. Heat opens pores allowing easier removal of blackheads.

Step 5

Remove blackheads using spoon extractor. Place the hole on the double spoon extractor over the blackhead you are removing. Press the extractor down until the blackhead is expelled. If a blackhead is not expelled completely from the pore, wipe it with a cotton ball soaked in toner.

Step 6

Sanitize the double spoon extractor with a cotton ball that has been soaked in alcohol after each blackhead removal.
