How to Get Rid of Blackheads for Good
Blackheads are a form of acne that occurs when the pores on the skin become clogged with excess oil. The oil lodged in the pores is exposed to oxygen and takes on a blackened or yellowed appearance. When looking at blackhead extraction methods, you want to find a way to get rid of the blemishes for good without damaging surrounding skin. If you are unable to successfully remove blackheads for good at home, discuss more aggressive options with a dermatologist.
Fill a bowl with boiling hot water. Place your face directly over the bowl. Wrap a towel around your head and stay in place for five to ten minutes. The steam from the boiling water opens the pores to prepare for extraction.
Wipe down the blackhead extractor with an alcohol wipe. Position the end of the extractor directly over the blackhead.
Press down on the extractor gently. As you apply pressure, the blackhead should pop out of the pore. If at any time you feel pain, stop using the blackhead extractor.
Sanitize the blackhead extractor with an alcohol wipe again if you plan to remove multiple blemishes. Wipe off any residue left on the face with a clean tissue and then discard.
Wash the face with an acne-fighting cleanser. Once the blackheads have been removed, continue to treat the area to ensure that they do not return. Choose a face wash with salicylic acid as its active ingredient. Use the cleanser twice a day for at least two weeks.
