How to Get Oil Off Your Face
If you have oily skin, it means your skin is producing excess sebum. Sebum is the skin's natural oil, which can cause pimples and blackheads to form when it mixes with dead skin cells and dirt. Although it may seem as though oily skin is a curse, people with oily skin tend to have fewer wrinkles than those with normal to dry skin. When choosing a facial wash, look for a mild, oil-free cleanser. If you have acne, choose one with salicylic acid.
Lather an oil-free cleanser on a soft, clean washcloth. If you have acne-prone skin, look for a cleanser containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
Gently wash your face in a circular motion, paying special attention to the forehead, nose and chin. Use hot water to help break down excess oil.
Splash your face with cold water to close your pores.
Moisten a cotton ball with a toner for oily skin and wipe it over your face. Plain witch hazel is an inexpensive toner that is not overly drying.
Use a facial mask once or twice a week to help absorb excess oil. Look for one made with bentonite or green clay, or use a peel-off gel mask formulated for oily skin.
