Overview

Pores are tiny openings on the surface of the skin. You can develop acne-causing blocked pores on your face from excess oil, makeup and dead skin cells. While regular facial cleansing removes surface dirt and oil, you may also need to deep clean your pores one to two times a week to keep your skin clear. Deep cleaning your pores is an easy way to pamper yourself and ward off blemishes.

Step 1

Saturate a washcloth with hot water. The water should be as hot to the touch as you can handle without being scalding hot. Wring out the excess water.

Step 2

Hold the wet washcloth about an inch from your face to allow the steam to open up your pores. Once the washcloth cools down a little, you can rest the washcloth on your face and relax for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3

Apply a clay-based facial mask to remove the embedded dirt and debris from your pores. Follow the manufacturer's directions and rinse off when finished.

Step 4

Splash your face with cold water. The cool water helps to constrict your pores and reduce their appearance.
