How to Treat Body Acne While Pregnant
Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy can lead to a few skin conditions, one of which is acne. In pregnant women, body acne can occur anywhere on the body, but it is most common on the breasts, back, buttocks, shoulders and neck. Treating acne while you are pregnant requires good skin care. If the acne is persistent, you may need to use topical medications.
Keep your body clean. Use an antibacterial soap when taking a bath or shower. When cleaning the area, avoid vigorous scrubbing as this can worsen acne.
Rinse your body off with a lukewarm shower after perspiring, such as after exercising or night sweats. Sweat contains bacteria and should be promptly rinsed off, but only clean your skin with soap twice a day at the most. Rinse off if you are having pregnancy-related hot flashes, rather than using soap.
Wear loose fitting clothing over the acne-prone areas of your body, recommends the Mayo Clinic. Tight clothing can trap sweat and bacteria near the skin, which will aggravate acne.
Use non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic sunscreen and moisturizer on your skin, as these products will not clog pores and worsen acne. Use a sunscreen or moisturizer that contains a sunscreen that is at least SPF 15 to protect your skin.
Apply a topical over-the-counter acne treatment that is benzoyl peroxide-based, recommends the American Pregnancy Association. Avoid salicylic acid-based products during pregnancy.
