How to Eliminate Blackheads in Your Ear
Blackheads are a result of oxidized bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells that have clogged skin pores and have been exposed to the outside air. These brownish black blockages form in the ears as well as on the face and back of many people. Ear blackheads are more difficult to treat since the ear provides little room to squeeze and coax the blockage out. Eliminating blackheads through proper ear care is the best way to treat them when space and time are limited.
Cleanse your ears twice daily with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Lather cleanser onto a clean washcloth using water and wipe your outer ears gently. This removes excess sebum, or skin oil, and bacteria. Pat dry with a clean towel, avoiding rubbing as this can irritate the skin.
Wash your hair frequently to avoid transferring hair oils to the skin. Oil from your hair increases your risk of blackhead formation, no matter how clean you keep your skin. Daily washings for people with oily hair will help to eliminate this problem.
Use oil-free styling products and make up. These products are labeled with the words "non comedogenic," meaning they do not clog pores. Makeup and styling products can get into the ears during application, becoming trapped in the pores. Oil-free versions minimize the risk of breakouts.
Apply an acne lotion containing benzoyl peroxide to the outer ear with a cotton swab twice daily after cleansing. These lotions are designed to dry out blackheads and promote dead skin layers to peel in order for the healing process to begin.
Take medications as prescribed by your dermatologist. In cases of severe acne breakouts in the ears and on the face, he may prescribe a mild antibiotic or hormone medication such as progesterone, according to DermNet NZ. Medications should be continued until the full course of treatment is complete in order to provide optimal results.
