Overview

Blackheads are pores that have become enlarged and clogged by excess oil. They are generally found on the face---particularly in the "T zone"---chest and back. Poor hygiene does not cause blackheads, although they can be aggravated by the use of makeup, a poor diet, drinking alcohol and smoking. Blackhead removal products are available commercially, but homemade methods also can decrease blackheads and help you maintain clear skin.

Step 1

Prepare a natural face scrub. Combine equal amounts of coarse sea salt, fresh lemon juice, honey and natural yogurt until you have a paste. Use sea salt or Himalayan salt for optimum results, although table salt will work.

Step 2

Set up a steam facial to loosen the debris blocking your pores. Bring a pan of water to a boil, then pour it into a bowl.

Step 3

Place a towel over your head and around the edges of the bowl so that steam cannot escape. Position your face approximately 18 inches above the water. Take short, shallow breaths until you are accustomed to breathing in the steam. After five minutes, or as the water begins to cool, your pores will be open. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel without rubbing.

Step 4

Apply the paste to the affected zones, massaging it gently into the skin with small circular motions. Massage for five minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.
