Simple Homemade Remedy for Blackheads
Overview
Blackheads are oil or dead skin that have blocked a hair follicle. Usually created when the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, they can be aggravated by harsh soaps and by excessive scrubbing. Effectively removing them requires opening pores, dissolving the oil and gently exfoliating. Picking or squeezing them can lead to more blackheads or even permanent scarring. Most over the counter creams will over dry the skin and create increased oil production. It is important to use a pure soap and wash gently.
Open the Pores
Step 1
Pour boiling water into a heat-safe bowl. Add tea tree oil. Place the towel over the bowl and your head, creating a tent.
Step 2
Steam your face for 10 minutes. Keep your face at least 3 to 4 inches away from water to prevent facial burns.
Step 3
Remove the towel and gently dry your skin.
Wash and Treat Skin
Step 1
Use warm water and wash your skin with soap and a washcloth.
Step 2
Scrub gently using circular motions. Rinse until your face is clean. Dry thoroughly.
Step 3
Apply lavender essential oil directly on your skin. Use sparingly.
