Homemade Acne Cleansers
People that are prone to acne often spend hundreds of dollars a year on commercial acne cleansers. These products typically use harsh chemicals and can leave skin feeling dry or stripped. You can make effective, organic cleansers at home, using essential oils, for much less. Even though the initial cost of essential oils can be pricey, a little bit goes a very long way and will pay off over time. Experiment with various homemade cleansers to find the one that works for your skin type and complexion.
Hazelnut and Rosemary Tonic
Pour 1 oz. hazelnut oil into a 2- to 3-oz. glass bottle.
Add six drops rosemary verbenone oil, five drops tea tree oil, five drops juniper oil and four drops lemon oil.
Close the bottle and roll it between your palms to mix the oils. Reopen the bottle, add 1 oz. apricot kernel oil, close the bottle and roll it between your palms once more.
Wash your face with a mild cleanser, pat dry and apply a toner.
Apply three to four drops of the hazelnut-rosemary tonic to a cotton pad and apply to your face, avoiding the eye area.
Store the tonic sealed in the refrigerator for up to six months.
Honey and Tea Tree Oil Cleanser
Combine 1 tbsp. honey, 10 drops tea tree oil, 1 tbsp. aloe vera juice and 500 mg vitamin C in a small jar or bottle.
Dot the mixture on blemishes as needed.
Store sealed in the refrigerator for up to six months.
Tea Tree Oil and Thyme Serum
Bring 1 cup distilled water to a boil in a saucepan.
Remove the saucepan from the burner, add 1 tbsp. thyme leaves, cover and steep for at least 30 minutes.
Strain the mixture and pour the liquid into an 8- to 10-oz. glass bottle or jar.
Add 10 drops tea tree oil, close the bottle or jar and shake vigorously.
Apply 1 tsp. of the mixture with a cotton pad to your face. Avoid applying near the eyes.
