Acne Pore Cleanser
Overview
Acne is caused by trapped oils and impurities that build up inside your pores, which causes your skin to become infected. To prevent acne breakouts, it is important to understand how to keep the pores clear, how quickly you can clear them, and what types of pore cleansers are available.
Types
There are many ways to clear your pores, which can include applying a mildly abrasive exfoliant, or flushing out your pores with a non-comedogenic oil, such as olive, jojoba or castor oil. When using an exfoliant to keep the pores clean, use a natural scrub that is composed of smooth grains, such as baking soda, so that it does not irritate or damage your skin. When using an oil, use a non-comedogenic, or non-pore-clogging oil.
Use
To use an exfoliant like baking soda, combine 1 Tbsp. of the exfoliant with 1 tsp. of water, and gently massage the exfoliant onto moistened skin for 2 minutes. Rinse with water and repeat up to two times per week. To use oil to flush your pores, massage 1 tsp. of oil onto your skin for 3 minutes, then drape a hot washcloth over your face to open your pores. Once the cloth cools, use it to wipe off the remaining oil. Repeat up to three times per week.
Warning
Some people with sensitive skin may feel irritation and discomfort using an exfoliant to keep their pores clean. People with sensitive skin may have better success using a pore flushing oil, which is gentle on the skin.
Time Frame
When using an exfoliant or a pore-cleansing oil, it may take a while to see the results. Depending on how clogged your pores are, flushing out your pores can take as little as a few days to as long as a few weeks. Many people find that their pores clear more quickly when using the exfoliant and the oil one after another.
Considerations
Avoid picking your skin or trying to push out the blockages from your pores. This can cause inflammation and can make acne breakouts worse. Treat your skin as gently as possible when exfoliating and flushing out your pores.
