Overview

It hardly seems fair to have to deal with wrinkles and acne at the same time, but "Marie Claire" magazine reports that 17 million Americans deal with post-adolescence acne. This may be partly due to the fact that a number of significant acne triggers--hormone fluctuations, high stress levels and air travel--can be even more common in your 30s than in your teens. Teenage acne products are too harsh for aging skin, says dermatologist Howard Murad in Elle magazine, so it's important to put together a new skin care routine to beat your mid-life breakouts.

Step 1

Wash your face with a glycolic acid cleanser every day--it will gently rub away dead skin cells to make you look younger while cleaning potential pimple-causing debris out of your pores, explains dermatologist Jeanine Downie in Elle magazine.

Step 2

Splash on a little alcohol-free toner during the day if you need a touch up, recommends Elle. It will keep your pores clear and soak up shine without stripping your skin's natural moisture, which can exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Step 3

Apply a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer every day--skipping moisturizer can make you look older and cause your skin to increase its oil production, explains dermatologist Patricia Wexler in Marie Claire magazine.

Step 4

Dab an anti-inflammatory serum directly on to active breakouts to reduce redness and swelling--look for ingredients like chamomile, cucumber, green tea and licorice root, recommends Wexler.
