Skin Care for Acne Scars

Overview

Acne is a skin condition in which the pores become blocked due to excess oil production by the sebaceous glands. This can cause the pores to erupt into inflamed nodules known as pustules. These pustules can result in scars when they rupture and are slow to heal. You can care for skin with acne scars by using chemical peels and other procedures at home.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin regularly to keep the pores open. Use a gentle soap with warm water to wash your face twice a day. You should also wash skin with acne after perspiring heavily.

Step 2

Use lemon juice to lighten acne scars. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Pour a cup of water into the bowl and stir thoroughly to prepare a solution of diluted lemon juice. Soak a washcloth in the lemon juice and wring out the excess. Press the washcloth gently to the affected area of the skin for a few minutes.

Step 3

Reduce acne scars with various oils that are available at beauty supply stores or health stores. Apply pure olive oil to the skin up to five times per day. Lighten acne scars gradually by applying rosehip seed oil up to two times each day. You can also use vitamin E oil to treat acne scars by applying it once per day.

Step 4

Treat light acne scarring with a chemical peel. Apply the chemical peel and peel if off according to the instructions, usually in about 15 minutes. A chemical peel is essentially a solution of glycolic acid. The home treatment versions are much weaker than those used by dermatologists and will remove only the top layer of skin.
