Acne Skin Care Supplements
According to MedlinePlus, acne is a common skin disease that cause red bumps called pimples. Sebum increases during the teenage years due to hormones. When excess oil remains on the skin, pores get clogged and bacteria called P. acnes flourish in the excess oil, resulting in inflammation. Acne can form anywhere on the body such as the neck, back or chest. It is not a serious condition and is most common in teenagers, but it can also affect adults.
Zinc
Zinc is a trace mineral, found in every cell in your body. This mineral has antioxidant properties, giving it the ability to increase the speed of healing of wounds. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, some studies have shown that taking a zinc supplement may help to reduce the severity of acne. They report that the use of the topical antibiotic erythromycin along with topical zinc may also be helpful in fighting off acne.
Vitamin A
According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, some topical and oral preparations that contain retinoids, a form of vitamin A, can help to treat and prevent severe acne. Dr. George Obikoya of the Vitamins & Nutrition Center says that vitamin A with carotenoids helps to keep the protective tissue of your skin strong and reduces sebum production, which can help prevent breakouts.
B Vitamins
Pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5, helps the body deal with stress, which is a factor known to cause acne. Low levels of the B vitamins niacinamide, or vitamin B3; pyridoxine, or vitamin B6; and riboflavin, or vitamin B2; in the body can lead to acne, according to Dr. George Obikoya.
