According to Mayo Clinic.com, laser treatments, dermabrasion, tissue fillers and surgery are the most effective medical treatments for getting rid of acne scars. However, these remedies are costly and somewhat invasive, and may not be worth their physical and financial costs for many people. Luckily, there are some natural moisturizers that can help get rid of acne scars while reducing their visibility. These treatments have not been approved by the FDA, however, so consult your doctor before starting a new treatment.

Vitamin E Oil and Calendula Essential Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a combination of vitamin E oil and calendula essential oil can be applied directly to the skin as a moisturizing agent for acne scars that will also help to reduce their visibility.

Combine 8 tbsp. vitamin E oil with ½ tbsp. calendula essential oil in a small bottle or jar and shake vigorously to combine. Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean cotton pad and dab the cotton pad on the affected area. Leave the liquid that remains on the skin on for approximately 20 minutes or until it is almost dry. Rinse the skin with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. This treatment can be repeated daily unless it irritates your skin, and unused portions can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to a month.

Lemon Juice, Rosehip Oil and Honey

According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies,” a mixture of lemon juice, rosehip oil and honey can be applied to the skin to help get rid of acne scars on the skin.

Combine 1 tbsp. lemon juice, ½ tbsp. rosehip oil and 1 tsp. natural honey and stir to combine. Apply a thick layer of the mixture onto clean, recently washed skin and leave it on for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse the skin with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser to remove the sugars after the allotted time. Pat the skin dry and apply your regular moisturizer if you use one. This treatment can be repeated in the morning and evening as long as you do not notice any irritation, and unused portions can be kept in the refrigerator in a container with a tight-fitting lid for up to 24 hours.

Sandalwood Essential Oil, Lime Juice and Avocado Oil

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of “Ayurvedic Beauty Care,” a mixture of sandalwood essential oil, lime juice and avocado oil can be applied as a topical treatment to get rid of scars.

Combine 1 tsp. sandalwood essential oil, 2 tsp. lime juice and 6 tbsp. avocado oil in a container, and stir or shake to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the affected area and leave it on for 25 to 30 minutes. Rinse the skin with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser. This treatment can be repeated daily unless it irritates your skin, and unused portions of the mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week.
