What Is a Quick Remedy for Acne Redness?
According to Mayo Clinic.com, the most common causes of acne include over productive sebaceous glands, hormonal changes, irregular shedding of dead skin cells and a buildup of bacteria on the surface of the skin. However, there are some quick remedies that can be stored to help reduce the redness associated with acne whenever needed, according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to The Use of Aromatic Oils In Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well Being."
Combine 1/2 tsp. bergamot essential oil, 1/2 tsp. lavandin essential oil, 1/2 tsp. juniper essential oil, 1/2 tsp. mandarin essential oil, 1/2 tsp. spearmint essential oil, 1/4 tsp. lemon essential oil, 1/4 tsp. tea tree essential oil and 3/4 cup jojoba oil in a small container with a tight-fitting lid.
Cover the container, and shake it vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the ingredients.
Pour 2 tbsp. of the mixture onto clean hands. Gently massage the essential oil mixture onto the reddened area.
Leave the essential oil mixture on your skin for 15 minutes. Rinse your skin with cool, clean water after 15 minutes has passed.
Pat your skin dry with a cool, clean towel. There is no need to use soap with this treatment unless it causes irritation or swelling.
Repeat this treatment as often as necessary to help reduce redness. Discontinue use if side effects like swelling, extra redness or new pimples occur.
Store unused portions of this mixture in a cool, dark and dry place for up to 60 days or 90 days in the refrigerator.
