Overview

Acne is an irritating and painful condition that can cause the skin to become red and blotchy. The red marks caused by acne can remain on the skin, long after the acne has cleared. Luckily, there are a few skin care treatments that can help you reduce redness, while continuing to kill off acne-causing bacteria on the skin. This not only treats acne redness, but it prevents acne breakouts from returning.

Step 1

Apply an oatmeal facial mask. Combine 1/2 cup of raw, ground oats with 1 cup of boiling water. Wait for it to cool down completely. Smooth the oatmeal onto your skin, and let it remain there for 10 minutes. Use a wet washcloth to remove the oatmeal carefully, and rinse your skin off well with water. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Apply tea tree oil to the red spots to reduce redness and kill off acne-causing bacteria. Dip the end of a cotton swab into pure tea tree oil. Dip it quickly again into water to dilute it. Dab the tea tree oil onto the area which has the acne marks. Let the diluted oil soak in completely. Repeat twice per day after applying the oatmeal mask.

Step 3

Spot treat the red marks with calamine lotion. Coat the tip of a cotton swab in calamine lotion; dab it liberally onto the red areas of your skin. Allow the lotion to dry onto your skin. After one hour, rinse your skin off with warm water. Repeat twice per day after applying the tea tree oil.
