Overview

Most acne treatments are meant to work over time, causing the pimples to dry out and disappear after a while. That still leaves you with redness and inflammation to deal with while you wait for your acne to get better. A healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables can help you improve your skin texture and might in turn help you reduce acne. In the meantime, there are approaches you can take to reduce redness.

Step 1

Apply an ice cube directly on the pimple and hold in place for a few minutes. If you can't stand the feel of the ice directly, wrap it up in a towel or cloth.

Step 2

Mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil (available at health food stores) with aloe vera gel. Apply directly over the red area and leave on overnight. Wash your face with cold water in the morning before applying makeup or using any other products.

Step 3

Apply a dab of toothpaste right on the pimple and let it dry overnight. The menthol in the toothpaste will reduce swelling and inflammation. This works only if you have a few scattered pimples rather than redness that extends all over your face.

Step 4

Head to your kitchen for some home remedies. Garlic rubbed directly on the spot works well. You can also mix lemon juice with rose water and apply it on the red area using a cotton ball. Rinse both with cold water after 30 minutes. A wet tea bag can also help, as caffeine reduces inflammation.

Step 5

Use eye drops. They naturally reduce redness and inflammation. Simply use a cotton ball and dab the product directly on the spot or reddened area. Start applying in a small area to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction to the product.
