How to Use Garlic to Prevent Acne
Overview
Medical studies indicate that garlic has both positive and negative effects on the human body. Garlic, or allium sativum, comes from the onion family and is a common ingredient in many foods. Some people, according to GrannyMed.com, believe that natural garlic applied to the skin will help elevate and prevent acne breakouts. While there is no medical evidence to support this theory, even the University of Maryland Medical Center suggests there are healing properties in garlic. If you are looking for a natural approach to preventing acne, garlic may be one supplement to consider.
Step 1
Purchase fresh, raw garlic at a grocery store. Garlic comes in bulbs that can be broken down into cloves. Slide your fingers between the cloves and break the bulb apart.
Step 2
Peel the skin off the garlic clove. There will be an outer and inner skin, just as with an onion. Remove both coatings to expose the raw garlic.
Step 3
Rub the raw clove over the affected area to clear up a current outbreak. Discard the clove once used and wash your hands. If you face burns, leave the application on for 10 minutes and wash your face. Repeat this process three times daily until the outbreak clears.
Step 4
Start taking garlic tablets as a dietary supplement to improve your immune system and help prevent further acne outbreaks.
