How to Prevent Forehead Acne

Overview

When the body produces too much sebaceous oil, the body's natural oil for lubricating the hair and skin, it becomes trapped in the pores and eventually turns into acne as the oil mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria. According to the University Of Maryland Medical Center, "Between 17 and 45 million people have acne, making it the most common skin disease in the United States." The forehead is a prime location for acne as oils from the hair can easily transfer to the skin promoting acne problems. With a few precautionary measures, forehead acne can be prevented.

Step 1

Pull your hair back to keep it off of your skin as often as possible. Keep your hair clean by washing it frequently in case your hair does come into contact with your skin. Wash your pillowcase every couple of days to avoid transferring oils from your face and hair back onto your skin.

Step 2

Wash your face daily with a mild cleanser to help prevent outbreaks. Wash your no more than twice daily to keep from drying your skin out. Pat your face dry gently with a soft absorbent dry towel.

Step 3

Apply only water based products to your skin as oil based products can clog your pores and contribute to acne. Check to make sure that sunscreens, cosmetics, and moisturizers are all water based before putting them on your skin.

Step 4

Mix raw oatmeal and warm water into a paste and apply it to your skin. Wipe away the paste after 15 minutes with a clean damp cloth. Do this once or twice weekly to help keep your skin from becoming too oily.

Step 5

Eliminate excess chocolate and caffeine from your diet as both can contribute to causing acne. Keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water to help keep your system flushed and eat a balanced diet that includes both zinc and vitamin A. Talk to your doctor before increasing your vitamin A levels as this may not be safe for those who have had liver problems or those who are pregnant.
