How to Encourage Good Bacteria on the Face

Your face is home to both harmful and beneficial bacteria. Harmful bacteria can cause infections and blemishes. Beneficial bacteria combats the harmful bacteria and keeps your skin looking and feeling healthy. Encouraging good bacteria to flourish on the face can result in less harmful bacteria and more radiant skin. Taking care of your skin doesn't have to be complicated. Only a few minutes a day are necessary to keep your facial skin healthy.
Step 1
Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser twice per day. Splash your face with warm water to dilate your pores, cleanse your face and then splash your face with cool water to constrict your pores and prevent harmful bacteria from invading them. Avoid the urge to wash your face more often than twice daily or use a harsh cleanser. Cleaning your face more than twice daily and using harsh cleansers damages the good bacteria, allowing the harmful bacteria to take over.
Step 2
Apply sunblock to your face prior to going outdoors for more than 15 minutes. The ultraviolet rays of the sun can damage your skin if not protected by sunblock. Damaged skin is not conducive to encouraging beneficial bacteria.
Step 3
Wash your hands prior to touching your face for any reason. Whether you're scratching an itch, applying cosmetics or cleansing your face, you must clean your hands prior to touching your face to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Harmful bacteria must be kept under control to encourage beneficial bacteria on the face.
