What is Acne ? What is Acne ? What is Acne ?

Acne, medically termed "acne vulgaris," is a condition of the skin in which one develops a group of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, swelling and reddening skin, nodules, and papules. Usually an acne breakout consists of only one or two of these conditions, but severe breakouts can include any number of conditions.

Acne can form almost anywhere on the body, but the most common places for acne to form are on the face, neck, and upper back. The first two sites lead to an acne breakout not only being incredibly uncomfortable, but embarrassing and socially impact, as well, and getting rid of acne is sometimes quite difficult. Normally acne is very itchy, painful at times, and can even cause open wounds as pustules pop or are broken by picking or friction.

A lot of people nowadays are suffering from acne and it is one of the major causes of depression in teenagers and even some adults.Acne is the result of blockage within the skin follicles. Blocking of the follicles is normal and happens to everyone, but the blockage is usually easily cleared through daily washing using facial cleanser or even regular soap and water  often, this is the only acne treatment required of us. There are instances, however, where blocked skin follicles are a bit stubborn, and oils and dirt become mired within them, causing acne. Oils as a cause of acne are worth discussion at this point, as unlike the regular external soiling through dust, dirt, and grime in our environment, oils are naturally produced by the skin, and too much sebaceous production (natural skin oil) can also be the cause of pimples and acne. Facial skin is one part of the body that has a lot of sebaceous glands (which produce oil), which is why acne is often located on a person's face  particularly on the forehead and cheeks  where getting rid of acne is really a priority.Oftentimes acne breakouts take place during adolescence, as it is the time where the hormones in the body are overproducing to compensate for the physical changes that mark the change into adulthood.

More often than not, acne that starts during adolescence carry over into adulthood  if the right acne treatment isn't found, this can lead to a life-long struggle at getting rid of acne.Fortunately, there are many approaches to acne treatment  no single acne treatment will be effective for everyone, as our bodies and the causes for our acne can vary. A few common approaches are:

Topical Acne Treatment

: These treatment products are available by prescription or over-the-counter, and vary widely in their active ingredients. Use care when selecting a topical acne treatment, and have some patience with different products, as it can take as long as a month for you to truly see results from a specific topical acne treatment. Once you find one that works for you, though, it will be a key tool in getting rid of acne and preventing outbreaks in the future.

: If your acne is caused by a hormonal or chemical imbalance within the body, the best way to correct the condition may be through a medication meant to be taken internally. Your doctor can prescribe a medical acne treatment for you. As with topical treatments, be aware that medication can take time to be effective, so be patient.

Lifestyle Changes

: You know the old saying  you are what you eat  At its core, this saying is true. The things that you take into your body, including junk food, alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs, all contribute to your overall health and wellness, as well as the chemical and hormonal balance of your body. Removing items that are causing an imbalance can go a long way toward getting rid of acne. Now that you know what acne is, what causes it, and how to find the right acne treatment, getting rid of acne is just a matter of developing a consistent plan and sticking with it. With luck, your future holds nothing but smooth, beautiful skin in store for you.
