Water for Acne
When you develop an acne breakout, instead of reaching for prescription medications or harsh skin cleansers, grab a glass of water. Drinking enough water every day helps contribute to clear, more beautiful skin because of how your body responds to the flushing of toxins in your system.
Acne can develop when your body is full of toxins and vulnerable to inflammation. Water helps flush those toxins and other waste materials out of your body, contributing to healthier, clearer skin. Water is also good for overall health, as it assists with blood circulation, digestion, absorption of nutrients, elimination and excretion of waste.
Water helps transport nutrients to all parts of your body. You need to drink a sufficient quantity---between eight and 10 glasses of water a day.
Your body is approximately 70 percent water. Because of this, water is one of the most important substances you can consume. It is involved in almost every function of your body. If environmental toxins build up in your system and you don't drink enough water every day, those toxins overwhelm your body's defenses. One way your body shows this imbalance is through acne breakouts.
Even if you drink other beverages such as juices or sodas, you're displacing the space that water could fill. Sodas contribute mainly empty calories and sugar, which can help contribute to acne.
When you don't drink enough water, the toxins and wastes that are normally expelled by your kidneys and bowels can build up, overloading these organs. The toxins have to be expelled somehow, so they find an alternate route---your skin. When this happens, you can experience an acne breakout.
Increase your daily intake of water gradually if you need to do so. Start with five glasses of water a day, then begin adding another glass of water every few days until you are drinking between eight and 10 glasses of water every day.
Drinking water every day helps your body rid itself of toxins more efficiently. Don't wait to drink until you feel thirsty. This is your body's signal that it is already dehydrated, so keep water close by and make it a habit to drink enough throughout the day.
When you start to drink enough water and toxins are flushed out, your skin responds by defeating any acne breakouts you may already have. As you continue your new habit of drinking enough water, you may notice that your skin is smoother, healthier-looking and more moist. Your body stays sufficiently hydrated through the day, which helps to keep toxins from from building up. When you have a low level of toxins, your skin benefits.
