Blackhead Extractor

Blackhead extractors are stainless steel tools used to push the blackhead out of the follicle on the skin's surface. The end of the extractor is placed over the blackhead and then gently pressed into the skin. The blackhead emerges from the pore and removed with a clean tissue. If multiple blackheads are present, the extractor should be sterilized with an alcohol wipe between uses. Scarring and bleeding can occur if the blackhead extractor is not used properly.

Topical Vitamin A

Vitamin A is available by prescription or in over-the-counter solutions. Prescription brands of topical vitamin A include Retin-A, Differin and Avita. Retinol is an example of an over-the-counter vitamin A treatment for blackheads. Since skin sensitivity is a side effect of vitamin A products, sunscreen should be worn.
