Treatments for Acne Marks

Acne marks are darkened areas of your skin that are caused by inflamed and irritated acne pustules. Acne marks can be difficult to remove because they are often thicker and drier than the rest of your skin. To get rid of discolored acne marks, use a few effective treatments that will soften, exfoliate and tone your skin.

Olive Oil Skin Soak

Soaking the skin in a non-comedogenic oil will help loosen and soften scar tissue, and helps dislodge discolorations from your skin so they can be sloughed away. Only use a non-comedogenic oil, which means it will not clog the pores in your skin. Olive oil is a non-pore-clogging oil that has been used for centuries to cleanse and treat the skin, and can be used as an effective skin soak for acne scars. Massage 1 to 2 tsp. of olive oil onto your skin for 2 to 3 minutes, then allow it to sit on your skin for an additional 5 minutes. After the allotted time has passed, use a moistened washcloth to wipe off the oil. Repeat up to three times per week.

Baking Soda Skin Scrub

Baking soda can be used to help remove loosened skin discolorations, without causing irritation or inflammation on your skin. A baking soda and water mixture should be gently massaged onto your skin after it has been softened with a non-comedogenic oil. Avoid rubbing the baking soda onto your skin too firmly, since this can cause irritation. Use a 2 to 1 measurement: 2 tsp. of baking soda to 1 tsp. of water. After 1 to 2 minutes of massaging the baking soda onto your skin, rinse it off with warm water. Repeat up to three times per week to remove loosened dead skin cells and scar tissue.

Lemon Juice Toner

Lemon juice is a naturally acidic substance that is high in vitamin C, which encourages the production of new skin cells. Applying lemon juice to your skin helps promote a more balanced, evenly toned complexion. To use lemon juice on your skin, fill an empty spray bottle with 8 oz. of concentrated lemon juice, and spray it on after your skin has been softened and exfoliated. You can either let the lemon juice remain on your skin for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with water, or allow the skin to naturally air dry. Repeat up to three times per day.
