Treatment for Extremely Dry Facial Skin
Although very dry facial skin can affect anyone, its appearance depends upon your age, where you live and your health status. Symptoms may include tightness, flaking, fine lines, fissures, scaling or rough skin. Extremely dry skin can have serious side effects, including psychological stress and disfigurement. Most often, dry skin is caused by controllable environmental factors that can be remedied with a few adjustments to your lifestyle.
Avoid using hot water while washing your face. It can strip the skin of natural oils, resulting in dryness.
Use a mild face wash or soap that contains added fats and oils. Avoid cleansers with antibacterial agents or fragrance.
Blot your face gently with a towel after washing. Aggressive drying can strip the skin of moisture.
Smooth on a gentle moisturizer right after washing your face when skin is still slightly damp. Refrain from using moisturizers that include alcohol.
Run a humidifier to add moisture to the air. Dry air can exacerbate dry skin, making flaking and itching worse.
Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep the skin hydrated.
