Deep-clean your pores of the dead skin cells, makeup, dirt and environmental pollutants that may clog your skin and make it susceptible to acne-causing bacteria. Regular washing every day can help maintain a clear complexion. For the best results, splash your face with warm water and apply one of the best acne washes available, as reviewed and selected by experienced dermatologists and cosmetics experts.

American Beauty Luxurious Lather Creamy Cleanser

Paula Begoun, the beauty products expert behind "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me," gave American Beauty's cream cleanser top marks. She said it was a "very good" water-soluble cleanser. It lifts away dirt, oil and other debris that may contribute to acne. Begoun writes that it's ideal for combination skin: its deep cleaning benefits may make it too drying for already dry skin. But this shouldn't be a problem for blemish-prone skin, which is typically oily or normal-to-oily.

InStyle magazine's beauty editors ranked Proactiv's revitalizing toner and cleanser as a powerful anti-acne combination, saying it's one of the top cleansers for acne-prone skin. Writing for the magazine, dermatologist Randal Haworth says the cleanser's active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, kills the bacteria that cause acne, showing your blemishes "no mercy."

Aveda Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser

Begoun likes Aveda's exfoliating cleanser for several reasons. First, it includes jojoba beads that help to physically scrub your skin, sloughing off dead skin cells and other debris that may clog pores and cause acne. It also includes soothing, nourishing herbal oils that moisturize your skin, while salicylic acid defeats acne. Its antioxidants may also help repair your skin and prevent premature signs of aging.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub

Neutrogena's beta hydroxy acid-based scrubbing cleanser contains no oil and is the best exfoliating cleanser for acne, according to InStyle magazine's beauty editors. The magazine's reviewing dermatologist, Virgil Hatcher, says the scrub's physical scrubbing beads and acid help to exfoliate and clear your pores without being too drying, perfect for daily use.
