Blackheads are a form of acne that appears on the skin when the pores become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Once the oil is exposed to the air, it oxidizes and takes on a blackened appearance. To prevent blackheads, control the amount of oil on the skin by cleansing with a mild soap twice a day. In the meantime, beauty supply stores sell extraction tools to get rid of blackheads.

Pore Strips

Pore strips are sold over-the-counter and have an adhesive backing to allow them to stick to the skin on the face. To apply, you must first moisten the area that contains the blackheads with water. Peel off the backing of the pore strip and smooth it out over the skin. The strip stays in place for several minutes until it hardens. When you peel the strip away from the skin, oil and dirt stick to it. To avoid irritating the skin, pore strips are only to be used a couple of days a week.

Blackhead Removal Gun

This is one of the tools listed for blackhead removal through the Care Fair website. These small plastic guns suction the blackhead out of the pore to remove it from the skin. The suction is powerful enough to draw out the blackhead without damaging the surrounding skin. The guns are often used in conjunction with other blackhead extraction methods, such as pore strips and metal extractors.

Metal Extractors

Due to the risk of scarring and damage to the surrounding skin, metal extractors are typically only used by professionals to remove blackheads. The loop of the metal extractor is placed directly over the blackhead. Gentle pressure is applied until the blackhead pushes out of the skin. Any residue left on the surface of the skin is removed with a clean tissue.
