Frizzy and out-of-control hair does not have to be a lifelong sentence. You can easily control frizz with the addition of a few products and a few extra minutes to your daily routine. Contrary to popular belief, frizzy hair does not need more moisture and hydration. In fact, the opposite is true. So, throw down the heavy conditioners and incorporate these tips into your hair care regimen.

Salon Services

Intensive conditioning treatments, cuts and color glossing services are all effective at taming frizzy hair. With the exception of naturally curly hair, most frizzy hair is due to styling, chemical and environmental damage. The best way to eliminate frizz caused by damage is to fix or remove the damage through select salon services. Regular trims are a must. Be sure to visit your stylist every six to eight weeks. When you are there, ask about conditioning and glossing services that eliminate frizz and add shine. Many of these services can also eliminate frizz in naturally curly hair.

Regardless of hair type and texture, you must use a good conditioner. If you have natural curl, use a smoothing shampoo designed to control curl and remove frizz. If your hair suffers from damage, select a reparative conditioner that contains protein and strengthening ingredients. Protein hair serums are useful in addition to reparative conditioners in extreme cases of damage.

Styling Products

Styling products are your best defense against frizz. Avoid gels, mousses and other products with high alcohol content. Use anti-frizz styling glaze before drying. Once hair is 70 percent dry, apply a liberal amount of silk or shine serum. Blow dry completely, and then apply a thermal styling spray with anti-frizz features.

Styling Tools

Do not use thermal styling tools with metal heating plates, which dry out and damage hair. Curling irons, flat irons and crimpers are all available in ceramic, tourmaline and other porous, naturally moist materials. These materials infuse moisture and shine into your hair, resulting in less frizz.

Day Care

Carry a silk or gloss serum with you at all times. Reapply serum throughout the day to remove frizz. Only use the serum when your hair absolutely needs it. Going overboard may result in hair that looks greasy or oily. Moisture activates frizz, so avoid environmental moisture and cover your hair when the weather is damp and humid. On rainy days, wear your hair up to avoid a frizz catastrophe.
