Keep Clean

Wash your skin in the morning and evening with warm water and a gentle cleanser. If you're prone to acne, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends also washing after you perspire heavily. Don't scrub hard, which can cause irritation. Ladies' Home Journal recommends rinsing off your cleanser completely since the residue can make your skin break out.

Mind Your Makeup

Makeup can clog your pores, so either avoid it or use a light touch. Use makeup products for sensitive skin or look for the word "noncomedogenic," which means a product is less apt to clog your pores. recommends making sure your makeup is fresh--discard it if it looks or smells funny--and remove makeup before you go to bed.

Drink Up and Eat Well

According to Ladies' Home Journal, your diet can affect your skin. Start by boosting your intake of fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C, found in citrus fruits and tomatoes, and beta carotene, found in carrots and orange-colored squash, can protect your skin from sun damage. In addition, try to add more selenium, found in foods such as garlic and eggs, to your diet to increase the elasticity of your skin. Furthermore, try to drink eight glasses of water a day, which helps your circulatory system, which in turn keeps your skin looking good.

Limit Sun Exposure

Do your skin a favor by wearing sunscreen and protective clothing outdoors. Too much exposure to sunlight increases your risk of premature aging and skin cancer and, according to KidsHealth .com, it can also worsen acne. However,  recommends washing off sunscreen when you go indoors because it can clog your pores.

Massage and Exfoliate

Massaging your face every few days to increase circulation, which keeps your skin smooth and elastic. They also recommend exfoliating, removing dry layers of skin to make way for fresh layers underneath. Use a gentle product to exfoliate, such as a scrub made of equal parts of sugar and lime juice.
