Acne is caused when your body produces too much oily sebum, which clogs your pores and leads to blackheads. Sebum production is affected by hormone changes, diet, and stress. There are many effective and inexpensive remedies for acne that can be made at home with ingredients commonly found in your kitchen.

Oatmeal Mask

Oatmeal dries and exfoliates your skin, while honey acts as a skin toner. Prepare 1/2 cup of plain oatmeal as if you were eating it. Allow to cool and add 1/4 cup of honey. Apply to your face, avoiding your eye area and leave it on for 15 minutes. Don't leave the mask on for longer than 20 minutes, or it will become difficult to remove.

Honey and Cinnamon

Make a thick paste of 1 tbsp. cinnamon and 3 tbsp. honey and apply it directly to your pimple at night before going to sleep. In the morning gently wash off the mixture. Repeat nightly for up to two weeks until the pimple is gone.

Papaya

The papaya fruit contains an enzyme, papain, that quickens healing time for wounds and is a powerful treatment for acne. Simply mash the papaya fruit into a paste and apply directly to your skin. It can reduce pimples and prevent outbreaks by removing lipids from your skin before they clog your pores.

Supplements

Zinc is a mineral that is critical in wound healing, cell regeneration and hormone production and is an effective treatment for acne taken internally and applied topically. Topical application of zinc oxide will slow down sebum production and help you heal more quickly. Taking 200mg of zinc gluconate orally will help regulate hormones, especially testosterone, which plays a big role in acne.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is as effective as benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne, but may worsen the symptoms of rosacea. It is a strong anti-bacterial oil and must be diluted. Try mixing 1 part tea tree oil with 20 parts witch hazel and apply with a cotton ball. You should see results in less than a week.
