The Cheapest & Best Acne Treatment
Overview
Acne is a term used to describe blemishes that appear on the skin. Acne can consist of whiteheads, blackheads, papules, nodules, pustules and cysts, according to the Mayo Clinic. If you want to avoid spending a lot of money and still clear up acne, you are going to have to choose a skin care regimen and stick with it.
Cleansing
Washing your skin is an important part of getting rid of acne without spending a lot of money. Using a gentle cleanser twice a day removes dirt and oil that may clog the pores. An inexpensive cleanser can be used, but it is important to choose a type that does not contain any alcohol or other ingredients that may irritate the skin.
Topical Treatment
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before you apply an over-the-counter topical acne treatment to blemishes. The group does not recommend certain brands, but does suggest products that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. When you put on the topical solution, cover the entire face, not just the areas with active breakouts.
Things to Avoid
If you want to get rid of acne, you need to avoid anything that may irritate the skin. For instance, any skin care products should be oil free and fragrance free. Clean phones and sunglasses before placing them on the face to prevent oil transference. Hair should be kept pulled back from the face as well. Stay out of the sun while treating acne since medications can cause sun sensitivity.
Considerations
When you suffer from severe acne, home treatment may not be effective at getting rid of breakouts. If you have medical insurance, it may cover any visits to a dermatologist. Prescription drug insurance coverage may be used to reduce the cost of acne medications, such as antibiotics, topical retinoids and isotretinoin.
Warning
Do not pop pimples as a cheap and effective way to get rid of acne. This can lead to irritation, which may cause more breakouts. It also puts you at risk of permanent acne scarring, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
