The best way to clear up acne completely using home remedies is to develop a disciplined daily acne regimen to cleanse and treat acne prone skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the result of a combination of excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria and inflammation. Your daily regimen should include several home remedies to help to address each of these issues, leaving smooth, healthy skin behind.

Wash

Cleaning the skin is the first step in a daily acne regimen. Andrew Weil, M.D., recommends an all-natural glycerin soap. Harsh soaps, scrubbers and washcloths can irritate the acne further, so only use your fingers to gently massage the soap over the skin. Pat the skin dry, versus rubbing it with a towel each time you wash. Over-washing can also irritate the skin further, so once in the morning and once in the evening is more than adequate.

Treat

After washing, apply tea tree oil to the acne-prone skin. The Mayo Clinic reports that tea tree oil has been proved to be just as effective as its chemical counterpart, benzoyl peroxide, in the fight against acne. Products should contain 5 percent tea tree oil for proper effect.

Moisturize

Aloe vera is not only a great moisturizer, but it's also a great healer. According to Quick Acne Remedy, aloe can help to overcome infection and heal the acne. It is also an excellent preventative for acne scarring. Allow the skin to absorb the tea tree oil and completely dry. Then, apply aloe vera to the acne prone skin, massaging gently with your clean fingers.

Boost Immune System

Vitamins A, C, E and zinc are all powerful antioxidants that aid in boosting the immune system to fight the bacterial infection. Antioxidants are found in many fruits and vegetables, or they can be taken as supplements. Zinc can be found in mushrooms, eggs, whole grains and nuts. In addition to boosting the immune system, zinc also contains anti-inflammatory properties. The Mayo Clinic recommends taking zinc supplements daily to fight acne.

Optimize Skin Health

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and more than any other organ, its health is dependent upon appropriate levels of water. Water not only keeps the skin's cells fully hydrated, enabling them to fight against acne, but water also flushes toxins away from the skin. Keeping the skin hydrated also keeps the skin from drying and sloughing off excess skin cells that clog pores.
