The Best Way to Remove a Blackhead
Blackheads occur when excessive oil in the skin clogs your pores and manifests as a black spot in the pore. Blackheads are unsightly and often difficult to cover with makeup. While the best way to deal with blackheads is to prevent them with an acne treatment cream, you can remove them so that your pores are clear and the black spot is removed. Using steam, exfoliation and some careful techniques can help you get rid of your ugly blackheads for smoother, clearer skin.
Heat the skin up with steam so that your pores are open, and it will be easier to extract the blackhead. Bring a pot of water on the stove to simmer. When it begins to simmer, remove the pot of water and drape a towel over both your head and the pot. Breathe in the steam, allowing it to open your pores for five minutes.
Wash your hands carefully with antibacterial soap. Wrap your forefingers in facial tissue. Place a finger on either side of the blackhead. Gently, apply pressure to either side, recommends the Acne Talks website. The blackhead should be forced from the pore, after which you can clean up with the facial tissue. If the blackhead does not come out quickly or easily, do not squeeze any harder. Leave it alone and cover it up until it heals. Excessive squeezing or not washing your hands before you begin could result in an infected blackhead.
Use a blackhead extractor if light squeezing does not work. You can find these at your drugstore. They work much like bulb syringes; squeeze the bulb end of the extractor, and place the extractor over the blackhead. Release the bulb to apply vacuum suction to the blackhead, removing it from your face.
Exfoliate with an exfoliating cream or a paste made from brown sugar and olive oil. Exfoliating will help from the dead skin, oil and dirt that clogs pores to cause blackheads. It will also leave your skin looking fresher.
Apply an acne ointment that contains benzoyl peroxide over your blackhead-prone areas. In this way, you can stop blackheads from forming, so you do not have to deal with squeezing or extracting them later.
