The Best Way to Get Rid of Blackheads & Clogged Pores
The body naturally produces sebaceous oils to lubricate both hair and skin, but when the body produces too much oil it clogs the pores and results in acne. Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are open pores with the oils and bacteria trapped beneath the surface of the skin. While blackheads aren't painful nor terribly noticeable, they can be irritating for those who want a clear complexion. Unclogging the pores and eliminating blackheads isn't difficult to do with the right materials.
Fill the bathtub, sink, or a large bowl with hot, steamy water. The location of the clogged pores and blackheads will help you determine which to use: A bowl or the sink might be easiest for blackheads on the face whereas using the bathtub might be best for blackheads on the legs or larger areas of the body.
Wrap a towel around the area with the clogged pores and blackheads and hold it over the hot water to steam the area. The water should be hot enough to create steam, but not so hot as to burn the skin.
Allow the steam to work on softening your pores as well as the dirt trapped within them for at least 10 minutes.
Remove the towel and use a flat blackhead remover to gently squeeze the pores to remove the dirt trapped inside. Read and follow the manufacturers' instructions carefully for use of the flat blackhead remover.
Wash the skin with an antibacterial soap and warm water while the pores are still open after you have finished using the flat blackhead remover to wash away any dirt or bacteria. Be sure to rinse well.
Splash cold water onto the skin after washing to minimize the pores.
