Acne occurs most often in people going through hormonal changes, but can also affect adults with mature, drier skin types. People battling both acne and mature skin often have a difficult time using common acne-fighting products because they can be too drying on the skin, often exacerbating wrinkles. Fortunately, there are treatments that will reduce and eliminate acne breakouts, while keeping the skin hydrated and soft.

Oil Cleanser

Cleansing your skin with soap can cause acne-prone skin to become overly irritated, and can cause aging skin to become overly dry. Therefore it is not beneficial for people with both acne and wrinkles to use a soap to clean their skin. Instead, combine a non-comedogenic oil such as castor oil with an acne-fighting oil such as tea tree oil to create an acne-fighting oil cleanse. Mix 1 tbsp. of castor oil with 1 drop of tea tree oil, then massage it onto the skin for three minutes. Afterward, steam your face to flush out the oils and bacteria from your pores. This can be accomplished by either pressing a steaming washcloth onto your face, or leaning over a bowl of steaming water. Use oil to clean and treat your skin twice per day.

Natural Exfoliator

Exfoliating the skin removes dead skin cells, which can clog the pores in acne-prone skin and exacerbate wrinkles in aging skin. Use a natural facial scrub to remove dead skin from your face; opt for natural ingredients that are both mildly abrasive and soothing to the skin, such as oats or honey. Massage the onto your skin for around three minutes, then rinse off with water. In order to keep your skin free of dead skin cells, use a natural facial scrub twice per week.

Vitamin C Toner

According to the University of Maryland, vitamin C helps fight off free radicals and increases skin cell turnover. For wrinkled, aging skin, reducing free radicals helps prevent wrinkles from worsening. For acne-prone skin, increasing skin cell turnover sloughs off dead skin cells that could clog pores, while encouraging new skin cells to form. Vitamin C can be applied to the skin in a citrus juice, such as lemon or lime juice. Spray the juice onto your skin and allowed it to dry up to three times per day.
