The Best Products for Acne Sensitive Skin

It can be difficult to find acne-fighting products that will not irritate the skin and exacerbate the acne breakouts when the skin is already sensitive and irritated easily. Luckily, there are a few products and treatments that will clear acne without causing irritation on sensitive skin.

Natural Soap

Natural soap refers to a soap that does not contain artificial or chemical ingredients. Artificial perfumes, dyes and emollients can irritate sensitive skin and can exacerbate acne breakouts and inflammation. Use a natural soap to clean the skin without causing any skin damage in the process. You can purchase a natural soap at any health food store, natural foods market, online merchant, or you could try your hand at making a natural soap yourself. Your skin should be cleansed using a natural soap no more than two times per day. Overwashing your face, even when using a natural soap, can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Oatmeal Scrub

Oatmeal makes an effective facial scrub that is helpful in removing pore-clogging dead skin cells, drying up acne and nourishing the skin. Pour 1/2 cup of raw oats into a small bowl, and pour 1 cup of boiling water into it. Wait until the oatmeal cools down, and spread it onto the skin. The oats will be slightly abrasive, yet soft enough not to scratch or irritate the skin. Use your fingers to massage the oatmeal onto your skin for 3 minutes. Wipe the oatmeal back into the bowl, and rinse off the skin well with water. Use an oatmeal scrub once per day to remove dead skin cells on sensitive skin.

Tea Tree Oil Spot Treatment

According to the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, tea tree oil can kill off acne-causing bacteria and dry up active acne pustules as well as benzoyl peroxide creams without leaving behind the side effects that benzoyl peroxide can cause, such as peeling or burning on the skin. As a result, tea tree oil is an effective acne-fighting alternative for people with sensitive skin types.Tea tree oil is extracted and bottled in its pure form and should be diluted in a 5 percent dilution before it is applied to the skin. To do this, fill a bottle with 8 ounces of water for every 5 drops of tea tree oil, then apply it with a cotton ball or cotton swab up to three times per day.
