One important step in eliminating and preventing acne breakouts is to cleanse your skin using effective and non-irritating soaps. In order to clean your skin correctly, and to avoid exacerbating your skin with chemically based soaps, it is helpful to know what the best, most efficient acne soaps are, and how to properly use them.

Sensitive Skin Soap

Acne causes the skin to become more sensitive than normal, and when standard soaps and cleansers are used they can exacerbate this irritation. One way to clean your skin without irritating or inflaming it is to use a soap designed for sensitive skin, which will be free of chemical additives such as perfumes or dyes. To use a sensitive skin soap, wet your face well with water, and lather up your hand with the soap. Apply the lather to your face, covering the entire area well. Rinse off your skin with water. Repeat twice per day.

Castile Soap

Castile soap is a liquid soap formulated without using lye, which can sometimes aggravate acne-prone skin. You can purchase castile soap at any health food store or bath and body shop. Castile soap is usually highly concentrated, and only a very small amount is used when washing your face. To use castile soap on acne-prone skin, wet your skin well and pour 1/4 tsp. of castile soap into your hand. Rub your hands together to create a rich lather, and spread the lather onto your face. Gently massage the castile soap around your face for one to two minutes, then rinse it off thoroughly with water. Castile soap can be used twice per day.

Tea Tree Oil Soap

Tea tree oil soap is infused with tea tree oil, which is both antibacterial and antimicrobial. Tea tree oil kills off the bacteria that cause acne, and can allow acne to be treated effectively during the cleansing process of the skin. The Department of Dermatology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suggests that tea tree oil may be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream in clearing acne breakouts. You can find tea tree oil soap at any health food store, or through an online merchant. To apply tea tree oil soap, wet your skin well, and lather your hands with the tea tree oil soap. Spread the lather around your skin for one minute, then rinse it off with warm water. Tea tree oil soap can be used on the skin twice per day.
