Sun bathing and tanning are common activities of people specially in western countries. In western society even in summer people try to spend their time in sun as much as they can. Sun causes tanning which is considered as cure for acne. People who cannot spend time in sun uses tanning beds and booths.

Tanning covers up redness and dries up the surface of your skin, making some blemishes fade away temporarily, thats why it is considered as favorable for acne sufferers. People believe that both sun and UV rays emitted from tanning beds or tanning booths help to improve the condition of acne, pimples or zits in the sufferer. n short run tanning may benefit you but in long run it is disastrous for your skin. Tanning has many severe side effects in long run like it may make your skin dry and itchy. It may cause early age wrinkles and also skin cancer.

For acne sufferers it is suggested that they should keep themselves away from tannings. It also has been proved that tanning can even increase your skin problem because it leads to over production of sebum which makes acne even worse. Tanning may break down collagen. When skin loses collagen, not only are you more likely to see wrinkles, but your pores may appear larger as well. How tanning cause acne? While tanning the body opens the pores to release sweat to cool the body. As tanning bed provides a enclosed area, sweat is unable to evaporate. This can cause the sweat to seep back into the open pores, which can cause acne.

Furthermore if you are taking any acne medication then it may cause photo sensitivity. Isotretinion, benzoyl peroxide, some oral contraceptives, some antibiotics are few who causes photo sensitivity. Because these acne medications increase the rate of cell turnover and exfoliation. It's a positive effect when you're trying to clear out clogged pores, but it also leaves skin more vulnerable to the damaging effects of UV rays.

To keep away yourself form sun is not possible. So take precaution. Use sunblock (SPF 15 or more) 45 minutes before going out in sun. if you have to spend more time in sun then use sunblock again and again.
