If you have oily skin with large pores, your skin may be more prone to acne breakouts and blackheads. Although you may try using commercial products to reduce oil production in your skin, you can supplement these products by using a few items that can help reduce oil and shrink large pores naturally.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A helps your body maintain a healthy, neutral pH and promotes healthy blood flow to your skin and other organs. You can supplement your diet with a multivitamin or you can get your vitamin A more naturally by eating foods that are rich in it. These foods include carrots, squash, spinach, Swiss chard and cantaloupe.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is extremely high in antioxidants, which can help your skin repair itself more quickly and will fight off free-radicals caused by overexposure to the UV rays from sunlight. You can take vitamin C in a chewable supplement, or you can eat foods that are high in vitamin C, for example, broccoli, lemons, kale, peppers, blueberries and strawberries. Vitamin C can also be applied directly to the skin to reduce pore size. Slice a lemon, then lay the lemon slices over your skin. Allow the slices to remain on the skin for 15 minutes, then rinse off your skin with warm water. Repeat once per day.

Olive Oil

Olive oil also contains antioxidants and is comprised of mono-unsaturated fats that can bind to the oils in skin. This makes olive oil useful both as a topical cleanser to treat the overproduction of oil in the skin and as a nutritional supplement to improve the quality of your skin from the inside out. To use olive oil as a cleanser, spread 2 tsp. of olive oil over your skin, and rub it in gently for 1 minute. Lay a hot washcloth over your skin, then wipe off the olive oil once the washcloth cools. To use as a supplement, take 2 tbsp. of olive oil by spoon once per day.


When your body is dehydrated, the oil glands in your skin can start to produce more oils in order to compensate for the lack of moisture in your skin. This can lead to oily skin and clogged, large pores. In order to avoid becoming dehydrated, drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water every day.
